The Blue Ridge Fudge Lady
Written by: DCI Board Member Taylor Terrill
What do cyber security and large amounts of sugar have in common? If you guessed the Blue Ridge Fudge Lady you would be correct. New to Downtown Christiansburg, Robin Deiulio has set up shop selling delicious fudge, baked goods, ice cream, chocolates and local crafts.
Starting the Blue Ridge Fudge Lady is a true testament that your day job and side hustle don’t have to be at all related. With a desire to stay in the NRV, Robin was able to switch to remote work as a Department of Defense contractor and launch the fudge shop in August of 2014. After being featured on Fox Business Robin’s business became an overnight internet sensation with fudge being shipped all over the states.
Even with internet success and a strong digital platform, having a physical store was important to Robin. “I realized how lonely and boring it is to only do online. The shop is important because you stay involved more with the community. I also, very much, LOVE people.
”
While selling sweets is her bread and butter, Robin hopes to expand her offerings by serving up a variety of breakfast and lunch options this spring and eventually expand into catering.
Be sure to stop by, say hey and try some fudge (Peanut Butter is her favorite).
The Blue Ridge Fudge Lady is located at 4 W Main St in Downtown Christiansburg, next to Papa Johns Pizza and is open Monday - Saturday, 12-5pm.
P.S. If you want to see Robin in action in her community, look at the flashmob she helped organize when she was located in Pulaski.
